Description: The Senior Policy Associate will be an integral member of MEEA’s Policy Team, working to further MEEA’s policy activities at the local, state and regional levels. The Senior Policy Associate’s work will support and advance mandated and voluntary energy efficiency policies at the state level. The Senior Policy Associate will also be responsible for understanding and communicating technical aspects of energy efficiency, including those related to the EPA’s Clean Power Plan. Ongoing work will include educating policymakers in states throughout the region, including governor’s staff, public utility commissioners, state energy offices, and state legislators. This will be accomplished through various research, writing, coordination, and administrative tasks. The Senior Policy Associate will also be responsible for convening and participating in state and regional coordinating policy groups.

The Senior Policy Associate will support the work of the Policy Team, but also will be responsible for coordination with other areas of MEEA, including Membership, Marketing, and Programs. Developing and maintaining relationships – both internally and externally – that advance the work of the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance will be a requirement for this position. The Senior Policy Associate will report to MEEA’s Senior Policy Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Track and analyze state energy efficiency policies across MEEA’s 13-state footprint and relevant regional and national issues
  • Research and write reports for funders and members on topics including utility energy efficiency program design, financial incentives for energy efficiency, and Clean Power Plan compliance, among others
  • Coordinate educational and outreach activities to increase awareness and understanding of energy efficiency, including webinars, calls, and conferences
  • Assist in management of MEEA’s policy advocacy through coalition-building with all stakeholders
  • Develop fact sheets, case studies, newsletter, blog postings, and other advocacy materials
  • Provide logistical and administrative support to MEEA’s Policy Team

Qualifications:

  • A. or B.S. in: public policy, political science, or a related field required
  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience in public policy required. A graduate degree may be substituted for 2 years of professional work.
  • Knowledge of the EPA’s Clean Power Plan regulations and the energy efficiency industry preferred
  • History of strong project management experience with proven success with meeting deadlines and the ability to adapt to shifting priorities
  • Strong facilitation and coalition-building skills among diverse stakeholders
  • Strong oral and written presentation skills
  • Able to working as a member of a team in a small-office environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Passion for energy efficiency
