Description: Twin is a development through trade NGO working with 33 producer organisations representing 300,000 coffee, cocoa and nut smallholder in 17 countries across Latin America, Africa and Asia. Our coffee company Twin Trading, works to access value-added markets for our producer partners and offers quality coffee with development impact.

We unlock the power of trade to strengthen producer organisations and delivery social justice, economic development and environmental sustainability for small farmers. We are engaged throughout the value change to balance producer support with creating market demand, building partnerships that deliver sustainable, scalable and meaningful change.

Twin has multiple projects on climate resilience and has started a study how to improve climate resilience projects and better understand farmer innovation in response to environmental limitations in the context of climate change. This work required more attention and is the reason of this volunteer job advert.

This is a great opportunity to understand the world of coffee, value chains and ethical trade and work within coffee enthusiasts!

Responsibilities:

Desk based research

Compiling recent studies on coffee and climate change

Literature review of climate change evidence in coffee producing areas (East Africa, Central America, Latin America and Asia).

Literature review of theoretical concepts related to climate change (Adaptive capacity/management, M&E indicators) and on-going collaborations/consortium initiatives within the Third sector

Researching and categorising existing climate resilience / climate adaptation projects and initiatives

Status of the voluntary carbon markets and opportunities (tbc)

Engaging with industry partners

Approaching Twin’s business partners and other NGO, implementers to enlarge our case study database

Develop concept notes

Communicating preliminary results to pith to industry partners to seek interest and investment in coffee and climate resilience improvement.

Attending events and meetings on behalf of Twin

Any other duties that have been agreed with the Project Manager
