Energy Modeling Researcher

Position: Energy Modeling Researcher

Organization: The Center for Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Policy

Location: Budapest, Hungary

Application Deadline: August 22

Description

The Center for Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Policy (3CSEP) at Central European University, Budapest, is looking to hire a researcher for a project to construct a global energy and GHG emission model that assesses the contribution the building sector can make to climate change mitigation goals. 3CSEP is looking to hire one junior researcher.

The Tasks

To accomplish the objectives of this project an existing scenario model and the underlying databases will be updated, strengthened, and made more robust. The modeling work will show the trends of energy use dynamics in global and regional building sectors and building types, determine the potential for energy use and GHG emissions reduction due to ambitious and worldwide proliferation of energy efficient and renewable energy best-practices in buildings, as well as place the model on a platform integrating analysis in Geographical Information Systems (GIS). The scenarios are based on the CEU 3CSEP’s earlier building energy scenario work for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the Global Energy Assessment and the United Nations Environmental Programme and Sustainable Buildings and Climate Initiative(UNEP SBCI). The new model will also feed into intergovernmental research assessments such as the Fifth Assessment Report of the IPCC.

The applicant

We are looking for applicants with a background in energy efficiency, architecture, engineering, economics, or related subjects – strong numerical skills and good knowledge of Excel are expected. Experience in modeling, scenario development or programming are strong advantages. Good writing skills in English are a prerequisite, as is the ability to meet tight deadlines and work well in teams. The researcher will be based in Budapest.

The work, depending on final approval for funding, will begin immediately and take place until approximately January 2012. The position may be combined or extended with other research tasks at the 3CSEP, depending on interest as well as the background, experience and performance of the candidate. Pay is commensurate with experience and share of time spent on the project. CEU is an equal opportunity employer.

How to Apply
