Responsibilities: The River Stewardship Coordinator:

  • Engages volunteers in field work.

  • Represent OARS at regional and state meetings on water resource stewardship.

Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in environmental policy or stewardship, conservation, or a related field. Course work and work experience should demonstrate working knowledge of environmental conservation and policies pertaining to water resource management. Enjoyment of kayaking, canoeing or fishing and knowledge of the SuAsCo watershed are assets.

OARS staff are self-starters, confident, creative, and work as a team. The ideal candidate feels comfortable speaking to groups, managing teams, and working independently. Excellent written, spoken, analytical, and interpersonal skills are required.

China Program Intern, Pacific Environment – California

We currently are engaged in building the capacity of Chinese non-governmental organizations to work on water and air pollution. We are looking for an intern to assist our China Program Director in this exciting and challenging work. We welcome applicants who have particular interests in environmental protection, civil society, and China.

Responsibilities: The intern will assist with the following areas:

Water and air pollution training program: assist with Pacific Environment’s training program for local grassroots environmental groups in China, including program evaluation, and developing training materials and programs for use in China; summer interns are given one or two substantive projects which fit with his or her skill set and interests.

Communications: translate materials for our website and other communications (from Chinese to English); write one blog for our web site on a topic of the intern’s choosing and related to PE’s work;

Administration: assist with program administrative tasks (no more than 20% of the intern’s time).

Skills and Experience Desired: mandarin Chinese speaker strongly preferred; good English writing skills; some college education is strongly preferred; some environmental campaign experience or education in an environmental field preferred.

Responsibilities: Interns will advance conservation in New England by bringing their energy and enthusiasm, and writing, researching, and/or computer mapping skills to three or more of the following initiatives:

  • New England Forest Policy Agenda: Provide support to a federal policy process and a New England-wide coalition intent on increasing resources for forest conservation across New England.
  • New England Conservation Finance Roundtable: Assist in organizing and administering this first-ever event to identify innovative and effective strategies for doubling the pace of conservation through increases in financial capital.
  • New England Regional Conservation Partnership Network Gathering and Training: Assist Highstead staff in organizing, administering, and supporting a full-day conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nashua, New Hampshire.

  • Signature Landscape Program: Assist Highstead staff in researching, quantifying, mapping, or otherwise illustrating the geographical extent of a larger signature landscape that includes Highstead and surrounding fields, farms, and forests.
  • W&WI and RCP Network Communication: Work with the communications staff and the conservation staff to develop e-newsletters and website content in support of W&WI and the RCP Network.
  • Conservation Event Planning, Administration, and Coordination:Interns may assist with events, meetings and workshops serving a variety of conservation professionals.

Qualifications: We seek recent graduates of Bachelors or Masters level programs with a demonstrated interest and enthusiasm for the development and implementation of real-world strategies for the following areas: landscape ecology, land conservation, and forest policy. Candidates must have good writing, research, and organizational skills. They must be comfortable working in a group setting and also taking individual initiative, as they will have considerable responsibility for advancing one or more projects. Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a plus in some instances. Candidates must have access to a car for travel within, and in some cases outside of, Connecticut.

Responsibilities:

Financial Planning & Analysis (50%)

  • Prepare monthly forecast of expenses and ongoing estimation of the spend down plan for each grant and present to senior management.

  • Issue periodic projection of expenses for cash flow planning

Financial Analysis (30%)

  • Support the quantitative analyses for CCAP’s climate policy work
  • Create financial models estimating NPVs, IRRs and abatement costs, as well as conduct sensibility analysis for various scenarios

Expected salary range is $50,000-$60,000, commensurate with experience

Catskill Program Coordinator, New York-New Jersey Trail Conference

Position Title: Catskill Program Coordinator

Location: Mahwah, New Jersey

Description: The Catskill Program Coordinator serves as the Trail Conference’s principal staff representative in the Catskill region of New York State (primarily within the Catskill Park Blue Line but including areas of any Trail Conference projects located west and north of U.S. Route 209.). It is important for the person in this position to work closely with the Assistant Catskill Program Coordinator, partners and volunteer leaders within the region to establish priorities in order to accomplish broad overall goals for the trail system.

Responsibilities: As a part of this process, the following activities will be required.

Partnerships
Create, maintain and further meaningful working relationships with agency partners and land managers at the municipal, county and state level and engage in planning processes of key relevance to Catskill trail users. Expand and support regular means of communication and planning with partners, volunteer and non-governmental organizations, including maintaining and improving regional collaborative efforts such as the Catskill Park Advisory Committee and the Catskill Park Coalition.

Volunteer Development
Pursue new sources of volunteer manpower to work with existing volunteers and focus their involvement by addressing training and resource needs in key project areas. The regional coordinator also cultivates potential volunteer leaders and familiarizes them with central staff support and trail management responsibilities. Oversee the management of the Catskill Conservation Corps as the portal for volunteer recruitment in the Catskill region.

Trail Development and Management
The Catskill PC partners with land managers and works with volunteers to maintain and upgrade trails and lean-tos throughout the region. The Catskill PC identifies training and recruitment needs by organizing and managing workshops, events, and communications.

Trail Protection
Work with agency staff and volunteers to review the policy and land access for the region, initiate a prioritized list of objectives, and represent the Trail Conference in working with partners and volunteers to assure that the high quality trail experiences are optimally protected and promoted.

Resource Development
The Catskill PC seeks out and develops sources for funding of regional projects and programs in coordination with the Assistant Catskill PC, Trail Conference central office staff and volunteers. This includes general outreach and recruiting volunteers and members as well as cultivating support from land managers, municipalities and other interested parties.

Information
Serve as the primary clearinghouse for information about Trail Conference-maintained trails in the region and to develop a communications plan.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Minimum of two years of relevant professional experience or five years of substantial volunteer experience.

Success working with volunteers, field staff, agency personnel, contractors, recreational users and other stakeholders.

Must be a self-starter, able to prioritize, to handle multiple tasks and projects across a diverse region, use good judgment and offer recommendations to solve problems.

Ability and willingness to travel and work a variable schedule including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities: The Trash Initiative Program Manager is responsible for programmatic management and supervision of Trash Initiative staff.
