Diction and Phonetics

Soprano and diction coach, Jennifer Ringo grew up in a bilingual household with her Cuban mother insisting on having Spanish spoken at home. Her fascination with language was influenced by her parents who were both language professors. Living in Europe for more than twenty years drew her to the French and Italian repertoire, where she worked with Janine Reiss and Robert Kettelson. In New York she has studied with Nico Castel and Robert Cowart.

Jennifer Ringo has performed with prominent opera companies and symphony orchestras throughout North America and Europe.

She made her professional debut with the San Francisco Opera in the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor and has sung leading roles at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Le Grand Théâtre de Genève, Houston Grand Opera, Canadian Opera Company, and L’Opera de Nice. Some of her principal roles included Gilda in Rigoletto, Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos, The Countess in Nozze di Figaro, Marie in Wozzeck, The Infanta in Der Zwerg, and Ellen Orford in Peter Grimes, the protagonist in La Voix Humaine and Musetta in La Boheme.

Her orchestral appearances in Europe have included concerts with the Orchestre National de France, Gürzenich Orchester/Cologne Philharmonic, Vienna Kammerorkest, Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Berliner Rundfunk Orchester, and orchestras of Barcelona, Palma de Majorca, the Helsinki Philharmonic, and the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon. She appeared in a televised performance of La Voix Humaine at the Triennale Festival in Cologne.

In America, Miss Ringo has sung with the orchestras of Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Houston. In addition, she performs at many United States summer music festivals, including Aspen, Cincinnati May Festival, Caramoor, Ravinia and Tanglewood, as well as at the Hollywood Bowl.

She is a graduate of the University of Iowa and the Juilliard School of Music. She was a winner of the Metropolitan Opera regional auditions, participated in the San Francisco Opera’s Merola program and was a member of the Houston Grand Opera Studio.
