Follow the Lieder

This presentation is the culminating project of "Follow the Lieder: Writing for the Voice in the 21st Century", a course taught by Missy Mazzoli. Throughout the semester, students studied art songs, arias, and their contemporary descendants while composing original works in collaboration with singers from the Graduate Vocal Arts program. Tonight’s performance offers the debut of these new pieces for voice and piano, paired with songs by Margaret Bonds, Amy Beach, and Aaron Copland.
