Hansel and Gretel

Drawing on one of the Brothers Grimm’s most enduring tales, Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel combines folk-inspired melodies, rich orchestral writing, and a clear cast of characters. Set against a winter forest landscape, the story follows two siblings who become lost in the woods and encounter a threatening figure in a world that shifts between domestic familiarity and the uncanny.
This production features the Conservatory Orchestra conducted by Leon Botstein, with singers from the Bard Graduate Vocal Arts Program, and a children’s choir drawn from the Conservatory’s Preparatory Division. Sung in German with English supertitles.
