Admission Overview

Two Degrees, Two Applications 

The Conservatory five-year, double-degree program admits exceptionally talented musicians who have already achieved a superior degree of instrumental proficiency, or have substantial accomplishment as composers. To be admitted, applicants must submit an application to both the Conservatory and the College, perform a successful audition, and be accepted by Bard College. The chances of being admitted to the College will be substantially enhanced by outstanding achievement in music.

Dates and Deadlines

Regular Admission

Deadline for BOTH Applications: January 1
To be considered for admission to the conservatory, students must submit two separate applications--one for the college and one for the conservatory.  

Live Auditions Dates (by invitation only): 
Friday, February 22 - flute

Sunday, February 24 - violin, viola, cello, composition, bassoon, oboe, clarinet, piano

Monday, February 25 - percussion

Sunday, March 3 - violin, double bass, horn, trumpet, piano

Applicants who are unable to attend the live auditions are welcome to submit a video recording. Video recordings are due February 1. Applicants submitting a video recording will receive an email with further instructions on how to submit their recordings. Composition applicants who are unable to travel to Bard will have their interviews conducted via Skype.

US-China Music Institute
Live auditions for the US-China Music Institute will take place in Beijing China at the Central Conservatory of Music and in Shanghai (location to be determined.) Applicants may also submit recorded auditions or audition live at the Bard campus.

Transfer Student Admission

November 1: Application deadline for the spring semester 
March 1: Application deadline for the fall semester
