Join Bard Conservatory Faculty and Distinguished Guest Artists for a very special new online program July 12-17, 2021

Application Deadline: May 1st 

 
A select group of precollege piano and violin students, chosen by audition, will participate in a week-long program, working closely with faculty in daily lessons, technique classes, and masterclasses.  The week will culminate in a student performance, with in-person and virtual options, on Saturday, July 17th.

DATES:  Monday July 12 to Saturday July 17
TIMES:  Monday to Friday from 12 pm to 4 pm (est) with Saturday Recital Performance

Auditing tuition is $200 for the week.

Program Overview

The Bard Precollege Summer Music Academy is an exciting new week-long program taking place online from July 12-17, 2021.  A small group of advanced precollege students, ages 11-18, will have daily private lessons, technique classes, and masterclasses with some of the finest musicians and teachers working today.  Faculty include international soloists, chamber musicians, and professors from major music schools such as the Bard Conservatory of Music, Indiana University, Yale University and many more.  

We hope you will join us for a week of exceptional music making and education!
 

  • Enrollment is open to highly advanced violinists and pianists aged 11 to 18 (as of July 12, 2021)
  • Students will be selected by video audition
  • Auditing students are also welcome for the daily masterclasses.  See the Application tab for more information.
  • Application and audition videos due by May 1, 2021.  Auditioning students will be notified by May 8.

Academy Schedule

The Academy will meet online (via Zoom) Monday, July 12th to Friday, July 16th from 1:00-4:00 pm (eastern standard time) with a performance on Saturday, July 17th.

  • July 12 to 16: 12:00-4:00 pm (est)
  • July 17: Student Recital
    • 11:00am: Piano Academy Recital
    • 2:00pm: Violin Academy Recital

Sample Daily Schedule:
  • 12:00-12:45 pm:  Lunch and Discussion Hour
  • 1:00-1:45 pm:  Private Lesson
  • 1:45-2:30 pm:  Technique or Repertoire Class
  • 2:30-4:00 pm:  Masterclass

All classes and lessons meet online.  We hope to provide an in-person option for the student recital on Saturday, July 17th if conditions permit.  Students who cannot attend the performance in-person will be able to perform from home.

How to Apply

To apply, complete and submit the online application form by 5:00 pm (est) on May 1, 2021.  Please be sure to include the links for the youtube audition videos (2-4 videos per applicant) on the application form.  We recommend cutting and pasting the links to ensure accuracy.

Upon receipt of the application, we will contact you to complete payment of the non-refundable application fee ($50). 

Once the completed application and application fee have been received, the application is complete. 

Students applying for financial aid should also complete and submit the separate Financial Aid Application by May 1, 2021 for consideration.


Notification of Audition Results

The audition videos will be evaluated and students will be notified of results by May 8th.  Accepted students will have until May 15th to confirm participation in the program, after which any unfilled spots will be offered to students on the wait list.


Auditing Students

Auditors are welcome to observe the daily masterclasses.  Auditing tuition is $200 for the week.  Please fill out the Auditing Application to apply.

Audition Information

The Academy participants will be selected by video audition. 

Video Audition Guidelines
  • Students can choose to submit between 2 and 4 audition videos which accurately demonstrate their current level of playing. 
  • At least 2 of the videos should contain contrasting works.
  • Videos recorded between September 1, 2020 and May 1, 2021 are acceptable. 
  • Videos should be uploaded to YouTube on the unlisted or public settings (not private)
  • Please label each video on YouTube with the following information:
    • First & Last Name of applicant
    • Composer & Complete Title (include opus number, key, specific movement(s))
  • Videos must clearly show hands and face
  • Videos must not be edited, nor include any special effects
  • Performance venue, attire, lighting, and video recording quality will not be considered when evaluating the auditions.  However, it is in the student's interest to present the best overall presentation possible so some attention should be paid to these elements.
  • Video links should be cut and pasted into the Academy Application Form and submitted by 5:00 pm on May 1, 2021.
Audition Deadline:  Videos, Application, and Application Fee Must Be Received by 5:00 pm (est) May 1, 2021 for consideration. 
Students will be notified of the audition results by May 8.

  • Auditing Students (Masterclasses): $200

Financial Aid Information

Limited need-based financial aid is available.  To apply, please complete the financial aid application and submit by May 1st for consideration.  Accepted students who apply for financial aid will receive an aid offer with their audition results by May 8th.
