Biography:
Carl Elsaesser is a Brooklyn- and Maine-based artist whose films have been screened at festivals and exhibition venues including the Berlinale, New York Film Festival, Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival, Cinéma du Réel in Paris, Walker Museum of Art, Crossroads Film Festival, EXiS Film Festival in Seoul, and Archivio Aperto in Bologna, Italy, among many others. He is the recipient of the 2022 Media Art Award of the German Film Critics Association, European Media Arts Festival, for Home When You Return; Barbara Aronofsky Latham Award for Emerging Experimental Video Artist, Ann Arbor Film Festival; Rozen Grand Prize, Binghamton Babylon Film Festival; jury award, Haverhill Experimental Film Festival; grants and fellowships from Lightpress, Minnesota State Arts Board, LEF Foundation, and Iowa Arts Council; and residencies from the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation, Rockland, Maine; and Squeaky Wheel Film and Media Art Center, Buffalo. Curatorial and programming work at Carleton College Museum of Art, where he curated an exhibition of experimental Cuban cinema; and San Francisco Indie Film Festival.
