In this talk, I will begin by describing how a question about the geodesic flow on translation surfaces led to an exploration of continued fraction algorithms associated to triangle groups. My aim is to describe how apparently different areas of mathematics can work together to give rise to interesting and sometimes surprising results. For more information, call 845-758-6822, or e-mail [email protected].
