The Bard Center Presents the Woodstock Chamber Orchestra

Teresa Cheung Conducts Final Concert of Music Director Search Season

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Woodstock Chamber Orchestra (WCO) announces the last of four concerts in its 33rd season, featuring conductor Teresa Cheung, music director of the Altoona Symphony Orchestra, Altoona, Pennsylvania; resident conductor of the American Symphony Orchestra and music director and conductor of the Bard College Orchestra. Since 2004, Cheung has been the assistant conductor for the Bard Music Festival and SummerScape. She is a recipient of the JoAnn Falletta Conducting Award for the most promising female conductors. 

The program includes Mozart’s Symphony No. 36 in C Major (the “Linz”); Georg Friederic Handel’s Concerto for Oboe No. 3, featuring WCO principal oboist Allison Rubin Bitz; and Igor Stravinksky’s “Pulcinella Suite.”  The performance takes place at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 20 in Olin Hall. (The program will be repeated at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, at the Woodstock Playhouse, Route 212 at the intersection with Route 375, in Woodstock.) Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for students. Within one month following this concert, the WCO will announce its choice for Artistic Director for the 2012 – 2013 season.  Candidates for the post are this season’s four guest conductors:  Marissa Kaczynski, who led the orchestra in the September concert; Miriam Burns, who conducted in November; Nathan Madsen, last month’s conductor; and  Cheung.

The Woodstock Chamber Orchestra, formed in 1980 by musicians from the Woodstock area, now is comprised of professional musicians from the entire Hudson Valley, regularly performs music by local and regional composers, and performs in Woodstock and at Bard College.
