BARD COLLEGE MUSIC PROGRAM PRESENTS FIVE CONCERTS IN MAY Concerts feature the Bard College Community Chorus and Orchestra; Vocal, Jazz, Electronic Music, and Percussion Ensembles; and Da Capo Chamber Players and Colorado String Quartet
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.-The Bard College Music Program will present a series of five concerts in May that are free and open to the public. All the concerts will begin at 8:00 p.m. in Olin Hall.
On Wednesday, May 1, the Bard College Community Chorus, conducted by James Bagwell, will perform the Congolese Mass Missa Luba, with special guest Thurman Barker and the Bard Percussion Ensemble.
On Tuesday, May 7, the Bard College Vocal Ensemble, also conducted by James Bagwell, will perform music of Palestrina, Monteverdi, and Verdi. This concert is presented in conjunction with the Viva Verdi Festival at Bard.
On Tuesday, May 14, the Bard College Orchestra, conducted by James Bagwell, will perform music of Schubert and Mozart, as well as compositions by the winners of the Bard College Concerto Competition.
On Thursday, May 16, the annual Gala Concert will feature a performances by the Bard College Percussion Jazz Ensembles, both directed by Thurman Barker, with special guest saxophonist David "Fathead" Newman; and the Electronic Music Ensemble, directed by Richard Teitelbaum, which will perform works by John Zorn.
The series of concerts will conclude on Monday, May 20, with a performance of new compositions and orchestrations by Bard composers, performed by the Da Capo Chamber Players and the Colorado String Quartet. Joan Tower, chair of the Music Program at Bard, coordinated this performance.
