Academics

Academics Overview
The Al-Quds Bard faculty brings together an energetic group of respected scholars, theorists, writers, and artists who balance active research with an unflagging commitment to excellence in teaching and advising. The college regularly recruits distinguished visiting scholars from a range of disciplines.

About the Program

At the Al-Quds Bard College for Arts and Sciences, an interdisciplinary curriculum creatively combines the best traditions of the Palestinian and U.S. educational systems and draws on progressive trends in contemporary education. Seminar-style classes are small and emphasize writing and critical thinking.

Areas of Study

Al-Quds Bard has nine academic programs from which to choose your courses.

  • Humanities
    • Literature and Society
    • Media Studies
    Natural Science and Computing
    • Biology and Pre-Medicine
    • Chemistry
    • Computer Science

  • Social Sciences
    • Human Rights and International Law
    • Economics and Finance
    • Political Science
    • Urban Studies and Spatial Practices

Language Studies

All participants are required to take a semester-long course in colloquial Levantine Arabic and are strongly encouraged to take a course in Modern Standard Arabic.  Due to the program's small size and the flexible nature of the curriculum, students at different levels—beginner, intermediate, and advanced—benefit from a tailored and individualized approach to language study.  Heritage speakers can also be accommodated.

Cultural Program

Cultural Program

The Al-Quds Bard Abroad program organizes excursions designed to introduce students to the history and culture of Palestine. Excursions may include walking tours; day trips; visits to the theater, museums, and historical places; and social events with local students.

Internship Opportunities in Palestine

Our program encourages students to engage with local community issues through hands-on internships and volunteer work. Interested students can pursue opportunities with nongovernmental organizations, international agencies, and other groups. Faculty and staff at Al-Quds Bard have a wealth of contacts and can help organize these opportunities.
