Biography: B.A., Bard College; Ph.D., Rutgers University; postdoctoral fellow, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Professor Norton’s research focuses on using computational biology to study breast cancer growth. She has developed image-processing algorithms to build 3D representations of tumor vasculature using 3D reconstruction techniques from in vivo experiments in mice. Extensive large-scale computer simulations shed light on the important aspects of cancer progression and metastasis. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics Young Scientist Travel Award; Microcirculatory Society John R. Pappenheimer Postdoctoral Travel Award; American Cancer Society Postdoctoral Fellowship; Postdoctoral Fellowship for the National Institute of Health T-32 Training Grant in Nanotechnology for Cancer Medicine; and a New Jersey Commission on Cancer Research Fellowship. Her work has been published in American Journal of Cancer Research, IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, OncoTargets and Therapy, Journal of the Royal Society Interface, International Journal of Computer Applications in Technology, and Journal of Theoretical Biology.
