Sophia Ying Wang
Assistant Professor of Chinese Language and Literature
About Sophia Ying Wang PhD, University of California, Los Angeles; MA, Peking University; BA, Wuhan University.Dr. Wang’s research spans late imperial Chinese fiction and drama, medical humanities, gender and sexuality studies, print culture and media, Kunqu opera, and Chinese language pedagogy. She is currently revising her dissertation, Constructing Patients: Medical Narratives in Late Imperial Chinese Vernacular Fiction, into a book manuscript.
She has presented her research extensively at academic conferences across the United States, the United Kingdom, mainland China, and Taiwan. Her peer-reviewed work has appeared and is forthcoming in the Journal of Chinese Literature and Culture and CHINOPERL: Journal of Chinese Oral and Performing Literature.
Before joining Simon’s Rock, Dr. Wang served as a Chinese Lecturer in the Department of Asian Languages and Literatures at Pomona College (2020) and as a Research Assistant Professor at the Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology at Hong Kong Baptist University (2021).
