Bard Nursery Director Nora Painten Appears on the Little Feet Community Podcast
Nora Painten, director of the Nursery School at Bard, spoke on the Hudson Valley–based Little Feet Community podcast about the nursery school’s ethos of self-care for kids. Painten described the nursery’s social-emotional curriculum, which includes an emotions chart where kids can label their feelings and sensory activities. She suggests emotional regulation strategies parents can try at home like essential oils, rattles, and instrumental music to create white noise, or foods that children can try peeling themselves.
The Abigail Lundquist Botstein Nursery is an early childhood program that serves 34 preschool-age children a year. The nursery’s philosophy “centers around celebration of community and the joy of early childhood,” Painten said. The program promotes emotional literacy and mirrors Bard’s values of progressive education.
