Bard Student Lauren Rodgers ’27 Interviews CCE’s Sarah deVeer ’17 About STEM Night Out
Bard’s Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) has been running STEM Night Out for 14 years. Sarah deVeer ’17, CCE’s outreach coordinator and special events administrator, has led the program for the past eight years, working with Bard students to bring the joy of science to local schools, kids, and families. A model within CCE’s STEM Outreach Program, STEM Night Out partners with local community organizations, including community centers, libraries, or schools to run different STEM learning stations staffed by Bard students and other volunteers. “It’s a great pre-professional opportunity for students who want to get into education, but it’s also a great way for students to get off campus and network with local community partners,” deVeer told Rodgers. “At its core, STEM Night Out is great because you are able to drill down into the core of what you're teaching and unpack bigger concepts for kids and their families.”
