Bard’s Early Colleges Cited as a Model for Equitable College Admission after Recent Supreme Court Decision
The New York Times published a series of opinion pieces under the heading, “How to Fix College Admissions Now.” In an essay by Tomiko Brown-Nagin, dean of Harvard Radcliffe Institute and faculty member at both Harvard University and Harvard Law School, the Bard Early College model is cited as an example of how “to create a more equitable education system instead of one that merely replicates social division.” “Like Bard College, schools could create early college programs, which allow high school students to take and earn college credits,” she writes. Alongside other proposals, Brown-Nagin argues more early colleges would help to achieve an American educational system where students “have the opportunity to form meaningful relationships and exchange ideas across difference and prepare for a society and a workforce comprising people from all walks of life.”
