Bard’s Montgomery Place Featured in Dutchess Magazine

Dutchess Magazine’s “On Our Radar” series featured Bard’s Montgomery Place Estate, a 380-acre historic site that was home to seven generations of the Livingston family. The article focuses on this history, particularly the contributions of architect Alexander Jackson Davis, who was hired by the family to design the estate over a span of three decades.
Bard College acquired the Montgomery Place Estate in 2016. Since then, the site has hosted workshops, lectures, nature walks, and more and hosts regular tours. “The college’s undergraduates and faculty are a constant presence, from photography students documenting the archives to professors using the grounds as a living classroom,” writes Hillary Brown for Dutchess Magazine.
The site also includes the Montgomery Place Orchards, with a stand where visitors can purchase produce from the on-site farm run by the Taylor family. “We’re about preservation and keeping a low footprint, but we don’t want to be a stodgy white-glove environment,” says Kathleen McManus, the site director of Montgomery Place. “The place has come alive again.”
