BHSEC Baltimore Student Writes About the School’s Impact for The74
Bard Early College Baltimore student August Blake wrote an op-ed about his time in the program and the benefits of early college. Blake hopes to become a teacher and worked as a teaching assistant and student mentor throughout early college, which he says prepared him to understand the demands of higher education. He was inspired by BHSEC’s “emphasis on civic and intellectual engagement” and “commitment to bringing college to high schoolers, preparing them for future success in their professional and personal lives.”
Bard Early College is a multi-campus set of four-year public schools that let students enroll in college courses after tenth grade. Established in 2015, BHSEC Baltimore graduates earn an associates degree and 60 college credits. The Early Colleges aim to “influence and lead a national movement for early college education focused on quality and equity.”
