Bard alum C Mandler, who is nonbinary and transgender, talks about the use of gendered language in a society that is becoming less and less gendered. “The original way words were used was definitely patriarchal and cis and straight,” says Mandler. “But the beauty of language is that it does have the capacity to change.”
