Dumaine Williams ’03, vice president for student affairs and vice president and dean of Early Colleges at Bard, was interviewed on the EdUp Experience podcast. In conversation with guest host Bill Pepicello, former president at the University of Phoenix, and guest cohost Marvin Loiseau, dean of academics at the Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology, Williams discusses what makes the Bard High School Early College programs financially sustainable, how high school students are supported to earn college credits, and what he sees as the future of higher education. “The core of this model, as you can tell, is about access to education. And we want to make sure that we provide access to as many students as we can,” Williams said of Bard’s early college model. He continues: “One of the big parts of the Bard approach is that it isn’t light touch, right—we run full schools where you go into the building and there are hundreds of students taking college classes and working towards a degree. That’s a good thing for you as a student doing it because you aren’t doing it alone, you are doing it with a whole cohort.”
