The Housemaid (1960)

Asian Studies Program Presents

The Housemaid (1960)

Monday, November 13, 2023
Reem-Kayden Center Laszlo Z. Bito '60 Auditorium
12:00 pm – 2:00 pm EST/GMT-5
We are thrilled to present an exclusive opportunity for you to delve into the rich tapestry of Korean classic cinema. Join us for a special screening of Kim Ki-young’s iconic film The Housemaid, a cinematic gem that continues to captivate audiences worldwide with its profound narrative and pioneering artistry.

A torrent of sexual obsession, revenge, and betrayal is unleashed under one roof in this venomous melodrama from South Korean master Kim Ki-young. Immensely popular in its home country when it was released, The Housemaid is the thrilling, jaw-dropping story of the devastating effect an unstable housemaid has on the domestic cocoon of a bourgeois, morally dubious music teacher, his devoted wife, and their precocious young children. Kim’s film is an engrossing tale of class warfare and familial disintegration that has been hugely influential on the new generation of South Korean filmmakers.

Please mark your calendars and save the date. This is a must-see for anyone interested in Korean film, Koran art and culture, storytelling, and cultural exploration. We look forward to sharing this cinematic experience with you.
