What connections are we missing in an always-on world? Interactive media artist Andrew Schneider and recurring collaborators create a performance cartography of the all-too-fleeting revelations, narratives, and emotional interactions flooding our bodies and brains every second of every day. Audiences peer down like birds above the city to discover a living map where a multiplicity of narratives come into view: a biker, oblivious of the car that will hit her six blocks away; a couple kissing goodbye, then going on to lead different lives; flight patterns; Facebook usage; and countless other trajectories, patterns, possibilities, and futures. A breathtaking intersection of visceral physicality and visually stunning technology, NERVOUS/SYSTEM decodes the stories we miss each time we blink.

For NERVOUS/SYSTEM–the third show in the trilogy following YOUARENOWHERE and AFTER–Schneider is joined by collaborators Lindsay Head, Antonio Irizarry ’16, Kedian Keohan ’16, Peter Musante, Alicia ayo Ohs, Ashley Marie Ortiz, Jamie Roach and T.L Thompson. 

NERVOUS/SYSTEM was commissioned and developed in part by Live Arts Bard at the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College and BAM for the 2018 Next Wave Festival.

NERVOUS/SYSTEM received significant development support from LUMBERYARD’s residency program, MIT Center for Art, Science & Technology, and the Harbourfront Centre Performing Arts Residency Program. NERVOUS/SYSTEM was made possible with funding by the New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Theater Project, with lead funding from The Andrew W.
