Advancing the Landscape of Research, Methodology, and Data on the Care Economy

Advancing the Landscape of Research, Methodology, and Data on the Care Economy

Friday, November 21, 2025
Online Event
10:00 am – 11:30 am EST/GMT-5
A Feminist Economics Lens
We are pleased to announce that the Online Events Committee of the International Association for Feminist Economics (IAFFE) and the Levy Economics institute are co-hosting a 90-minute, moderated panel which will explore the evolving global research and data landscape on care work from a feminist economics perspective, with a goal of highlighting resources for researchers and advocates. Though care work has advanced markedly in research, national policymaking, and multilateral agendas, the feminist economic theoretical and methodological roots of this work continue to be essential for ensuring technical rigor to support the greatest impact. This event will aim to advance the dialogue on where there has been progress in terms of research, methodology, and data, from a feminist economic perspective, as well as discuss where our collective efforts could be best utilized moving forward.

REGISTER TO ATTEND VIRTUALLY

We are excited to have you join us. Stay tuned for the next related session on Care Policy Tools and Initiatives.

The panel will be structured around two key themes:
  1. Research and methodological progress – highlighting notable advancements in research on public investment in the care economy and the associated methodologies.
  2. Data infrastructure and surveys – assessing developments in time-use data and broader care data systems/dashboards over the past two decades.
The panel features leading experts whose research and contributions are advancing the fields of gender, care, and macroeconomics. Panelists:
  1. Research and Methodology
  • Ajit Zacharias – Levy Economics Institute
  • Thomas Masterson – Levy Economics Institute
  • Özlem Onaran – University of Greenwich
  1. Data and Survey
  • Nancy Folbre – University of Massachusetts Amherst
  • Misty Heggeness – Kansas University
  • Maria S. Floro –   American University
