Bard MBA in Sustainability Presents

The Local Economy Solution: Driving Sustainability through Decentralized Economy Building + Local Investing

Thursday, April 19, 2018
LMHQ, 150 Broadway, 20th Floor, NYC
6:30 pm – 8:30 pm EDT/GMT-4
Business Stepping Up: The Lovins Series
<<<<< TICKETS HERE >>>>>

As President Trump pursues a regressive, isolationist agenda, business is stepping up to address climate change, promote equality and protect human rights, and create economic opportunity. Join sustainability pioneer Hunter Lovins for a conversation series with industry experts to explore this shift in progressive business leadership.

Our April Business Stepping Up conversation will feature Michael Shuman, local economies expert and professor of Sustaining Mission at Bard's MBA in Sustainability. He will be discussing the movement towards economy localization, the growth of the "Small-Mart" Revolution, and what this all means in a sustainable business context.

Michael H. Shuman is an economist, attorney, author, and entrepreneur, and a leading visionary on community economics. He’s also an adjunct instructor at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, a Fellow at Cutting Edge Capital and at the Post-Carbon Institute, and a founding board member of the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE). He is credited with being one of the architects of the 2012 JOBS Act and dozens of state laws overhauling securities regulation of crowdfunding. He has authored, coauthored, or edited nine books. His most recent book, published by Chelsea Green in May 2015, is The Local Economy Solution: How Innovative, Self-Financing Pollinator Enterprises Can Grow Jobs and Prosperity. One of his previous books, The Small Mart Revolution: How Local Businesses Are Beating the Global Competition (Berrett-Koehler, 2006), received as bronze prize from the Independent Publishers Association for best business book of 2006. A prolific speaker, Shuman has given an average of more than one invited talk per week, mostly to local governments and universities, for the past 30 years in nearly every U.S. state and more than a dozen countries.

Join Bard MBA in Sustainability as we host the Business Stepping Up Series monthly in downtown Manhattan featuring Hunter Lovins in discussion with Bard MBA faculty and alumni who are part of this business revolution.
