Institute for Writing and Thinking Presents

IWT July Weeklong Workshops

Monday, July 6, 2020
Website
9:00 am – 12:00 pm EDT/GMT-4
The Bard Card College IWT July workshops offer teachers the opportunity to deepen their understanding of writing-based teaching and its application in the classroom. Together, teachers explore how to make these practices their own—how to reimagine writing prompts, work with new readings, and integrate collaborative learning into classrooms of all sizes.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, IWT will not be running the July Weeklong Workshops on Bard College campus this year. While we are disappointed not to be able to convene in person, we are pleased to announce that, for the first time, participants can attend our July Workshops online. Online workshops will run in an abbreviated form, from Monday July 6–Friday July 10, from 9am-12pm each day. Workshops will involve some asynchronous out-of-class reading and writing. IWT will also be offering online workshops scheduled specifically for international time zones.

On Tuesday evening, July 7, participants can tune in for a public reading by Samantha Hunt. Samantha Hunt’s collection of stories, The Dark Dark (FSG) was voted a Best Book of the Year by NPR, Vogue, The Huffington Post, and The Chicago Review of Books. She is the author of three novels, Mr. Splitfoot, The Invention of Everything Else, and The Seas. She is a recipient of the Bard Fiction Prize, the National Book Foundation’s 5 Under 35 award, and was a finalist for the Orange Prize and a Guggenheim Fellowship for fiction.  She teaches at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY.
The workshops that will be offered online are listed below. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about which workshop to choose.
