Fiscal Imagination: Rethinking Prosperity, Liberalism, and the American Economy
Monday, September 29, 2025
Olin Humanities, Room 205
12:00 pm – 1:30 pm EDT/GMT-4
Daniel Wortel-London will be discussing his new book The Menace of Prosperity in conversation with Simon Gilhooley, Gregory Moynahan, and Pavlina Tcherneva. Across disciplines, scholars are grappling with the crisis of liberalism, the failures of neoliberal economics, and the fragility of democratic institutions. Wortel-London's research situates these debates in the longer history of American prosperity: a contested concept that has been used both to justify inequality and to articulate alternative visions of solidarity. By connecting history with contemporary debates in public policy and scholarship, this talk seeks to open a dialogue on how communities can reimagine prosperity in ways that affirm dignity, belonging, and democratic participation.12:00 pm – 1:30 pm EDT/GMT-4
