Special Talk: Nadia Murad Basee Taha to Speak on the Yazidi Genocide and Sexual Slavery

Special Talk: Nadia Murad Basee Taha to Speak on the Yazidi Genocide and Sexual Slavery

Friday, September 23, 2016
Bard Hall
10:00 am EDT/GMT-4
Nadia Murad Basee Taha is UN Goodwill Ambassador for the Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking. She will speak about her campaign against sexual violence and other war crimes committed by the Islamic State against the Yazidi people, and what has to happen in order to bring the perpetrators to justice. This special event is hosted by: The Hannah Arendt Center for Politcs and Humanities, CCE, Bard Model UN, and Bard Human Rights Program. Nadia Murad Basee Taha, 23 years old, was enslaved, raped, and brutalized along with fellow Yazidi near Mosul in Iraq. She finally escaped and made it as a refugee to Germany, one of the few countries that has boldly and fearlessly accepted refugees in spite of the political pressures not to do so. Nadia Murad has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize and is a UN Goodwill Ambassador for the Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking. You can read about the Yazedi Genocide and the Sex Slavery of Yazedi women here and here. You can read more about Nadia Murad Basee Tahahere and here. Photo Credit (right): Fred R. "Nadia is a fierce and tireless advocate for the Yazidi people and victims of human trafficking everywhere. “
—Ban Ki-moon, THE SECRETARY-GENERAL of the United Nations
