Kenneth S. Stern Featured in the New Yorker
Director of the Bard Center for the Study of Hate Ken Stern ’75 was interviewed for a story in the New Yorker. The article “The Troubling Lines that Columbia is Drawing,” by Eyal Press, focuses on the development of the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism and its relation to Columbia’s recent settlement with the federal government in July. Stern, who codeveloped the definition in 2016, expressed concern over what he sees as its misplaced use and said it will make it impossible “for faculty to do their jobs.”
Stern has led the Bard Center for the Study of Hate since 2018. His most recent book, The Conflict Over the Conflict: The Israel/Palestine Campus Debate, was published in 2020.
