Laura Kuhn, Former Director of the John Cage Trust, Speaks with Radio Kingston
Former John Cage Professor of Performance Art Laura Kuhn was interviewed on Radio Kingston. She appeared on the show Listening with China Blue, which interviews guests from all walks of life to see how listening influences them and contributes to their success. Kuhn, now retired, who was the founding executive director of the John Cage Trust, worked with Cage for many years and has developed workshops and stage adaptations about his work.
In the episode, Blue and Kuhn discussed Kuhn’s early career research on intermediate art, which led her to meet Cage and begin studying his work. They also spoke about Cage’s famous work 4’33", which is four-and-a-half minutes of silence. “[Cage’s] definition of music was not specific— it was just organized sound,” Kuhn remembers. [The current Executive Director of the John Cage Trust is Jeffrey Lependorf.]
