Leon Botstein Quoted in Times Higher Education

Bard President Leon Botstein was quoted in a Times Higher Education article about the Trump administration’s previous compact deal for universities and the possibility that it will be reworked. Patrick Jack writes that the Department of Education recently established a new committee to “‘rewrite the accreditation handbook’” and may seek “renewed avenues for reform.” Botstein warned accreditation could be used to enforce ideological standards. “He believes higher education is unpopular with his base,” Botstein said. “[These compacts] create a climate of fear, which creates self-censorship.”
