Lucinda Childs: Momentary Reprise Reviewed in the New York Times
The Fisher Center LAB program Lucinda Childs: Momentary Reprise, part of Bard SummerScape, was reviewed as a New York Times critic’s pick. Celebrated for choreography that is rigorous, inventive, and hypnotically precise, Childs has shaped generations of dancers and choreographers, and her SummerScape program included the North American premieres of several major new works. Her “stylistic persistence is on display,” writes Brian Seibert for the Times, who notes that Childs combined recent work with excerpts from some of her midcareer pieces with influential collaborators, as well as reinterpretations of early works. “Switches of direction have long been fundamental to Childs’s compositional sense, but here they have a resonance closer to poses in certain Paul Taylor dances, stripped to pedestrian simplicity but nevertheless humanly dramatic,” writes Seibert.
