Bard Conservatory Presents Recital Series by Postgraduate Piano Fellows
THE BARD COLLEGE CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC PRESENTS RECITALS BY POSTGRADUATE COLLABORATIVE PIANO FELLOWS
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Bard College Conservatory of Music presents a series of free recitals this spring by Conservatory Postgraduate Collaborative Piano Fellows, including Lucas Wong and Adam Bloniarz.
The first of the series, “L’invitation au voyage avec Lielle Berman,” is offered on Thursday, January 31, at 8:00 p.m. in Blum Hall, with Canadian pianist Lucas Wong and soprano Lielle Berman. They will perform Duparc’s L’invitation au voyage, Britten’s On This Island, early songs of Debussy, Spanish music of Rodrigo, and Brentano lieder by Strauss. Berman and Wong established a partnership four years ago and have performed in the world-renowned International de Musique de Chambre de Lyon for Voice and Piano in France. Berman made her debut at the New York City Opera in October 2007.
Wong’s second recital in the series, “Claude Debussy: Nostalgic Glances,” is on Thursday, February 28, at 8:00 p.m. in Olin Hall. In this recital, Wong is joined by mezzo-soprano Solange Merdinian of the Conservatory’s Graduate Program in Vocal Arts, as well as Argentinian violinist Sami Merdinian, and cellist Laura Usiskin. The all-Debussy program includes Chansons de Bilitis, late instrumental sonatas, his early Piano Trio in G, and a parody of a beginner’s five-finger exercise in his Pour les cinq doigts après Monsieur Czerny.
[This concert has been cancelled.] On Thursday, March 20, at 8:00 p.m. in Olin Hall, the series features a recital by Adam Bloniarz. Works to be performed include Schumann’s Liederkreis Op. 39 and a Brahms sonata for viola and piano.
In April, Conservatory Postgraduate Collaborative Piano Fellows perform the complete Beethoven piano and violin sonatas, on Friday, April 11, and Saturday, April 12, at 8:00 p.m.; and on Sunday April 13, at 3:00 p.m. in Olin Hall.
The final concert in the series, on Thursday, May 10 at 8:00 p.m. in Olin Hall, again features pianist Wong and is titled “Brahms Soirée for Piano, Viola, and Voice.” He is joined by Canadian violist Margaret Carey, grand-prize winner of the CMC viola competition at the XXXIV International Viola Congress in Montreal; mezzo-soprano Abigail Fischer; and Malaysian pianist Hui Shan Chin, a student at the Conservatory.
The Bard College Conservatory of Music’s Postgraduate Collaborative Piano Fellowship is a two-year fellowship designed to give professional experience to pianists who have a strong interest in becoming collaborative artists, with the ultimate aim of easing the transition between school and the working world of a collaborative pianist.
