J.S. Bach's Masterworks Kicks Off the Woodstock
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Woodstock Chamber Orchestra (WCO) kicks off its 30th season at Bard College on Friday, October 31, with a concert featuring J.S. Bach’s Three Cantatas and the Brandenburg Concerto No. 1. Presented in cooperation with The Bard Center, the performance begins at 8:00 p.m. in Olin Hall. Tickets are $20 for adults; $5 for students.
David Leighton, WCO artistic director, will conduct, and Christopher and Lynette Pfund are the featured soloists. Christopher Pfund, tenor, is known internationally and regionally as well, appearing as tenor soloist in Carmina Burana with Charles Dutoit and the Philadelphia Orchestra at Saratoga this summer. He and his wife Lynette, soprano, live in Beacon. Each will sing a solo cantata and then they will join together in Cantata 191, along with the Kingston High School Choir, Lawrence D. Lohman, director. Bach later used this cantata virtually without change, in the Gloria section of his monumental B Minor Mass.
The Woodstock Chamber Orchestra, formed in 1980 by musicians from the Woodstock area, now comprises professional musicians from the entire Hudson Valley. WCO regularly commissions music by local and regional composers and each season performs in Woodstock, Kingston, Saugerties, and at Bard College.
