Bard College Presents a One-Day Conference "Preserving Our Campus: A Look at Bard's Historic Preservation Planning Process"
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.— Bard College hosts “Preserving Our Campus:A Look at Bard’s Historic Preservation Planning Process” on Saturday, November 15, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Weis Cinema at the College’s Bertelsmann Campus Center. The program reviews Bard’s recently completed Historic Preservation Master Plan, with lectures and tours detailing Bard’s historic buildings and landscapes. The event includes light refreshments, buffet lunch, and conference materials; registration is required. The deadline for registration is Friday, November 7. The historic preservation conference will be of interest to building and land managers, state and national park officials, stewards of land trusts and preserves, owners of properties such as historic mansions, college and residential school administrators, architects, landscape architects, students, and the general public.
The program is funded by a Getty Foundation, Campus Heritage grant. “American colleges and universities are frequently unique repositories of some of the country’s finest historic architecture and designed landscapes,” says Deborah Marrow, director of the Getty Foundation. “While other buildings may have had a variety of owners and uses over the years, campus buildings have, for the most part, remained under the same stewardship, which presents wonderful opportunities for preservation and education.” Campus Heritage grants reflect the Getty Foundation’s emphasis on thorough planning to ensure thoughtful and successful historic preservation.
Founded in 1860, Bard is a highly selective coeducational four-year residential college, offering a bachelor of arts degree with concentrations in approximately 50 academic programs in four divisions: arts; languages and literature; science, mathematics, and computing; and social studies.
