ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Bard College Orchestra, conducted by Nathan Madsen, presents a concert on Sunday, December 14, at 8:00 p.m. in Olin Hall. The free concert features a performance of Robert Honstein’s Might Mixes (2005), Dmitry Shostakovich’s Piano Concerts No. 1, Yalin Chi, piano, Paige Milligan, trumpet;  JS Bach/Leopold Stokowski’s Sheep May Safely Graze; Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Greensleeves; and Arcangelo Corelli’s Concerto Grosso in e minor, "Christmas."

Nathan Madsen is now in his second season as Music Director of the Bard Orchestra. Recent guest conducting appearances include performances with the Woodstock Chamber Orchestra, the Bard College Conservatory of Music, the Da Capo Chamber Players, and the Bard Musical Theatre Group. In addition, Mr. Madsen is a frequent guest clinician with youth orchestras, including the Empire State Youth Orchestra, Albuquerque Youth Symphony, Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra, and the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony. Mr. Madsen received his master’s degree from The Conductors Institute at the Bard College Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Harold Farberman. He holds a dual degree in music and East Asian languages and cultures from the University of Southern California. A recipient of a grant from the Freeman Foundation, he also attended The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

In 1997, just prior to her immigration to the United States, Yalin Chi gave her debut with the Central Opera Symphony Orchestra in her home town of Beijing. Since then, Ms. Chi has performed solo and chamber concerts throughout U.S. and Asia in venues including Alice Tully Hall and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York, Gardner Museum in Boston, Kumho Art Hall in Seoul, Korea and ZhongShan Music Center in Beijing. Recent concerts have included performing the Beethoven Triple Concerto with the Green Bay Symphony, and recitals in Long Island and at Baylor University with Joseph Alessi, principle trombone with the New York Philharmonic. Chi began her formal music education at the age of twelve, attending the Central Conservatory Preschool in Beijing. She studied with Seymour Lipkin during her undergraduate years at Juilliard, and completed her Masters degree in 2005 under Jerome Lowenthal. She has also studied under Peter Frankl in the Artist Diploma program at Yale. In January of 2008, Yalin Chi joined the United States Military Academy Band in West Point, NY.
