The Bard College Music Department Presents Saxophonist Joe McPhee in Concert, April 28

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON —The Creative Music Committee and the Bard Music Department present saxophonist Joe McPhee in concert with Richard Teitelbaum, electronics, and Thurman Barker, percussion, on Tuesday, April 28th at 8 p.m. The program takes place at the Chapel of the Holy Innocents on the Bard College campus. This performance is free and open to the public; donations can be made to the Creative Music Committee.

Since his emergence on the creative jazz and new music scene in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s, Joe McPhee has been a deeply emotional composer, improviser, and multi-instrumentalist (sax, trumpet, pocket trumpet, clarinet, valve trombone, and piano), as well as a thoughtful conceptualist and theoretician. In the 1990s, Mr. McPhee played with
saxophonists Ken Vandermark and Peter Brontzman, while more recently he has been engaged in projects with bassist Dominic Duval and drummer Jay Rosen, Trio X. Time Out New York has praised Mr. McPhee on account of “his magical take on avant-garde sax remains one of the wonders of the scene. He still has one of the most beautiful tones on the planet, even when he’s reaching for jazz's outer limits.”
