John Ashbery Poetry Series at Bard College Presents Poet Rachel Blau Duplessis
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The John Ashbery Poetry Series presents poet Rachel Blau DuPlessis reading from her widely acclaimed Drafts poetry project on Thursday, November 12. Free and open to the public, the reading begins at 6 p.m. in the Weis Cinema of the Bertelsmann Campus Center.
Begun in 1986, DuPlessis’s long poem project is collected in Torques: Drafts 58-76, Drafts 1-38, Toll, and Drafts 39-57, Pledge, with Draft unnnumbered: Précis. A new book, Pitch: Drafts 77-96 is expected in 2010. In 2006, two books of her innovative essays were published: Blue Studios: Poetry and Its Cultural Work on gender and poetics, and a reprinting of the ground-breaking The Pink Guitar: Writing as Feminist Practice, both from University of Alabama Press. In 2002 she was awarded a Pew Fellowship in the Arts; in 2007, a residency for poetry at Bellagio, sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation; and in 2008-09, an appointment to the National Humanities Center in North Carolina. Her poems have appeared in such periodicals as Jacket Magazine, Conjunctions, Chicago Review, Verse, Hambone, and XcP: Cross-Cultural Poetics. Her poetry has also appeared in French and Italian.
