Prominent Historian, Author, and Political Commentator to Give Lecture at Bard College on Thursday, November 19
Richard Aldous, British History Professor at University College, Dublin to Discuss “Reagan & Thatcher: The Difficult Relationship”
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.— On Thursday, November 19, Bard College’s History Program and Dean of the College present prominent author and political commentator Richard Aldous, professor of British History, School of History and Archives, University College, Dublin, and a research scholar at Bard. His talk, “Reagan & Thatcher: The Difficult Relationship,” is free and open to the public and takes place at 4:30 p.m. in Preston Theater.
Richard Aldous has written widely on 19th and 20th century British history. His eight books as author and editor include The Lion and the Unicorn: Gladstone vs Disraeli (2006), Macmillan; Eisenhower and the Cold War (2005); and Tunes of Glory: The life of Malcolm Sargent (2001). He is currently working on a study of Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan for publication by Hutchinson and W.W. Norton in 2012. A prominent public commentator, Aldous is a regular political analyst on RTE Television, Newstalk and the BBC. He writes for the Sunday Independent, Irish Times, and Mail on Sunday. His book Great Irish Speeches (2007) was an Irish Times bestseller.
