The John Ashbery Poetry Series Presents John Ashbery and Anselm Berrigan

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The John Ashbery Poetry Series at Bard College presents John Ashbery and Anselm Berrigan reading from their work, on Thursday, November 18, at 6 p.m. The program takes place in Weiss Cinema, in the Bertelsmann Campus Center, and is free and open to the public. For more information call 845-758-7512.

John Ashbery is the author of more than thirty books of prose and poetry. He is widely regarded as one of the most significant and influential poets of the last half-century. His early book, Some Trees, was chosen by W. H. Auden in 1956 for the Yale Younger Poets prize. He has received many prizes and fellowships during his career, including the Pulitzer Prize for Self-Portrait in a Convex Mirror (1975), and The International Griffin Poetry Prize for Notes from The Air (2007). His most recent book, Planisphere, was published in 2009 by Ecco, Harper Collins.

Anselm Berrigan’s most recent book of poems is Free Cell (City Lights 2009). His other books include Some Notes on my Programming and Zero Star Hotel. His new book, Notes on Irrelevance, is forthcoming in 2011 from Wave Books. He is the poetry editor of The Brooklyn Rail and, with his brother Edward, co-edited The Collected Poems of Ted Berrigan (University of California Press). He was artistic director of the Poetry Project at Saint Mark’s Church from 2003 to 2007. Currently, he teaches at Pratt Institute and Brooklyn College and is the co-chair of writing in the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College.
