The Bard College Music Program Presents the Da Capo Chamber Players in “Cool Britannia”

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.— The Da Capo Chamber Players will perform an evening of contemporary chamber music by English and Scottish composers in “Cool Britannia,” on Friday, October 7, at 8 p.m., in Olin Hall. The chamber music program includes, “Songs for the Instruction of Singing Birds,” Richard Rodney Bennett; Five Processionals, Mark-Anthony Turnage; The Under-side of Green, Rebecca Saunders; Court Studies from the Tempest, Thomas Adès; Self-Assembly Composition No. 1, Luke Bedford; Commedia, Sally Beamish, and the world premiere of a sextet by Stephen Jaffe.

The Da Capo Chamber players are Patricia Spencer, flute; Meighan Stoops, clarinet; Curtis Macomber, violin; James Wilson, cello; Blair McMillen, piano; and guest artist André Emelianoff, cello.

Since its founding in 1970, the Da Capo Chamber Players has established itself as one of the foremost new music groups in the United States. Winners of the Walter W. Naumburg Chamber Music Award in 1973, Da Capo is a leader in building a strong heritage of present-day American chamber music: the group is known not only for exceptional artistry but also for the wealth of new compositions written for them. Over the years, more than 80 chamber music works have been written especially for them by composers ranging from Philip Glass to Milton Babbitt, Joan Tower, Jeffrey Mumford, and Su Lian Tan—a distinguished roster and a tremendous source of pride for the group.
