Bard Student Saim Saeed Awarded Highest Honor at West Point's Student Conference on U.S. Affairs

Bard Student Saim Saeed Awarded Highest Honor at West Point's Student Conference on U.S. Affairs

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.-Bard College junior Saim Saeed '13 of Karachi, Pakistan, has won the 63rd annual Student Conference on U.S. Affairs (SCUSA) award. The largest and most prestigious conference of its kind in the world, SCUSA is four-day conference hosted by the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Every year, the conference honors one delegate who the Academy believes has contributed most to the conference, who has provided the most information, and who has truly led discussion. This year, SCUSA honored Bard College junior Saim Saeed with this distinguished award. Saeed was recognized with an honorary West Point Military badge.

Approximately 200 student delegates attended the SCUSA conference from more than 100 universities and colleges worldwide. This year's conference theme was “Thinking beyond Boundaries: Contemporary Challenges to U.S. Foreign Policy.” SCUSA delegates were divided into about 14 panels and attended panel discussions, keynotes presentations, and roundtable sessions designed to produce thought-provoking conversations between participants. By the end of the conference, each panel produced a set of policy proposal papers, the best of which are published in the Undergraduate Journal of Social Sciences. Saeed participated in the “Promoting Security and Prosperity in South and Central Asia” panel. “As a political studies major from Karachi, Pakistan, I was automatically interested in the topic of discussion,” said Saeed.

ABOUT SCUSA
The purpose of SCUSA is to facilitate interaction and constructive discussion between student delegates in order for them better understand the intricacies of the challenges that the United States faces in a global society. SCUSA seeks to examine and discuss of selected aspects of U.S. public policy; to highlight the interdependence of the foreign and domestic policy areas; to facilitate an increased appreciation for the complex nature of the policy-making process among a group of outstanding college students; and to establish and enhance civil-military relationships and to broaden delegates' contact with their contemporaries in an academic endeavor.
