Bard College to Host Green Car Expo and Panel Discussion on Saturday, October 13

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — On Saturday, October 13, the Bard Center for Environmental Policy (Bard CEP) and Bard Office of Sustainability will host a Green Car Expo and panel discussion, “An Addiction to Cars: Air Quality and Policy Challenges in the U.S. Transportation Sector.” The Expo, which takes place from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the lobby and just outside the Reem-Kayden Science Center, includes opportunities to test drive the Chevy Volt, as well as learn more about student-led initiatives that focus on alternative ways to travel, including the Bard Bike Co-op, Bard Pedicab, Bard BikeShare, EcoReps, and others. Bard received grant funding for alternatively fueled vehicles under New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA)’s administration of the State Energy Program funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The grant covered 50 percent of the cost for a hybrid diesel electric shuttle and two electric vans, as well as $2,000 toward the purchase of a Toyota Prius for the College’s Department of Safety and Security.

The panel discussion, which takes place at 4 p.m. in the Reem-Kayden Science Center, Laszló Z. Bitó ’60 Auditorium, will feature Adam Ruder, associate project manager, NYSERDA; Keith Kerman, Deputy Commissioner for the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services; John Maserjian, director of media relations, Central Hudson; Mark Lytle, Lyford Paterson Edwards and Helen Gray Edwards Professor of Political Studies and coordinator of Environmental and Urban Studies at Bard College; and Andrew Bata, chief, Strategic Improvements and Best Practices at MTA New York City Transit. The discussion will be moderated by Eban Goodstein, director, Bard CEP, and director, Bard MBA in Sustainability.
