Bard College Hosts U.S.–Russia Joint/Dual Degree Conference

Conference to Be Held January 30 to February 1 at Bard College and SUNY Global Center
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—Bard College will host a U.S.–Russia Joint/Dual Degree Conference from Thursday, January 30, to Saturday, February 1. The conference, funded by the Eurasia Foundation, will bring together institutions of higher education that have existing or emerging joint and/or dual degree partnership programs in the United States and Russia. The conference aims to further cooperation among institutions and to begin steps toward the development of a professional network of institutions with shared interests. Specifically, the conference will create opportunities to explore the efficacy of different program structures, best practices, and challenges, as well as opportunities for future U.S.–Russian collaboration in higher education. It will also provide a venue for the exchange of ideas on the most effective structure for the development of a U.S.-Russia Dual Degree Partnership Network. The conference takes place at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, and at the SUNY Global Center in New York City.

In partnership with the Higher Education Working Group of the U.S.–Russia Social Expertise Exchange Program (SEE), the conference will also address collaboration between U.S. and Russian universities more broadly. On Saturday, a presentation by SEE presents research being conducted on best practices and future opportunities for U.S.-Russian higher education cooperation. The Higher Education Working Group, made up of academic experts and representatives from educational institutions and nonprofit organizations, works to increase civic involvement and enhance collaboration among higher education institutions in Russia and the United States.

Participating U.S. institutions include: Bard College, Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, California State University East Bay, Clark University, George Mason University, Hunter College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, SUNY Broome Community College, SUNY Canton, SUNY Empire State College, SUNY Stony Brook, University of Massachusetts Amherst, University of Maryland University College, and University of Wisconsin Madison.

Participating Russian institutions include: European University of St. Petersburg, Far Eastern Federal University, Financial University under the government of the Russian Federation, Higher School of Economics (Moscow), Higher School of Economics (St. Petersburg), Irkutsk State University, Kazan Federal University, Moscow School of Economics and Social Sciences, Moscow State University, New Economic School, Novgorod State University, Novosibirsk State University of Economics and Management, Omsk State University, Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, Skolkova Institute of Science and Technology, St. Petersburg State University, and Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics.

The conference is sponsored by Bard College in collaboration with the Center of Liberal Arts at the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences, St. Petersburg State University (Smolny College) and the SUNY Global Center.
