Bard College Students Organize Stem Cell Donor Drive
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY – Bard College students are organizing a public stem cell donor drive on Wednesday, April 13 from 1 to 7 p.m. The event will be held in the Bertelsmann Campus Center on the Bard College campus. It is being sponsored by the Bard DBC Stem Cell Donor Drive, in collaboration with Delete Blood Cancer (DBC), a charitable organization that has the world’s largest database of potential stem cell donors. Registering and collecting database records for prospective bone marrow donors can help save the lives of people fighting blood cancer. At the event, potential donors will have the inside of their cheek rubbed with a cotton swab to collect their DNA for donor registration. Walk-ins from 1-7 p.m. will be accepted and the registration will take approximately 10 minutes. Every healthy person between the age of 18 and 55 can sign up. After registration, those who get matched with a donor go through one of two procedures, “Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Donation,” and “Bone Marrow Collection.”
