Innovative Contemporary Fiction Reading Series at Bard College to Host Reading by Francine Prose on Monday, February 27
 

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.— On Monday, February 27, best-selling author Francine Prose, Distinguished Writer in Residence at Bard College, will read from her highly acclaimed new novel, Mister Monkey, which the New York Times Book Review calls “gorgeous and bright and fun and multifaceted, carrying within it the geological force of the ages. It’s a book to be treasured.” Prose will be introduced by novelist and Bard literature professor Bradford Morrow. The reading, presented as part of Morrow’s Innovative Contemporary Fiction Reading (ICFR) series, takes place at 2:30 p.m. in Weis Cinema at the Bertelsmann Campus Center and will be followed by a Q&A. It is free and open to the public; no reservations are required.
 
A Bard faculty member since 2005, Francine Prose has published more than 20 books, including the novel Blue Angel, a National Book Award nominee. Other fiction includes the novels A Changed Man, Hunters and Gatherers, Primitive People, and Bigfoot Dreams, as well as the story collection Guided Tours of Hell. Along with Anne Frank: The Book, The Life, The Afterlife and Caravaggio, Prose’s nonfiction includes the New York Times bestseller Reading Like a Writer, Sicilian Odyssey, and Gluttony: The Seven Deadly Sins. Her stories and essays have appeared in Atlantic Monthly, Best American Short Stories, the New Yorker, and the New York Times, among many other publications. She is a contributing editor at Harper’s, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, fellow of the New York Institute for the Humanities, and former president of PEN American Center. She is a recipient of the Edith Wharton Achievement Award for Literature, the Washington University International Humanities Medal, Guggenheim and Fulbright fellowships, and many other grants and awards. She received her B.A. from Radcliffe College.
 
Morrow’s ICFR series continues March 13 with Robert Olen Butler reading from his new novel, Perfume River, the sequel to his Pulitzer Prize–winning fiction collection A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain. Butler is the author of 16 novels, including Mr. Spaceman and Hell, and six fiction collections, including Tabloid Dreams. His stories have appeared widely in such periodicals as Conjunctions, New Yorker, Esquire, Harper’s, Atlantic Monthly, GQ, Paris Review, VQR, and Granta; as well as in four annual editions of Best American Short Stories, eight annual editions of New Stories from the South, and elsewhere.
 
On April 10, Guggenheim Fellow Paul Lisicky, the author of Lawnboy, will read from his new memoir, The Narrow Door. He is the author of Unbuilt Projects, The Burning House, and Famous Builder, and the editor of StoryQuarterly. A 2016 Guggenheim Fellow, he has also received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, James Michener/Copernicus Society, Corporation of Yaddo, and Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. He currently teaches in the MFA Program at Rutgers University–Camden, the low-residency program at Sierra Nevada College, and at the Juniper Summer Writing Institute.
