Bard College Landscape and Arboretum Program Earns Recognition from ArbNet Program and Tree Campus USA
 

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Landscape and Arboretum Program at Bard College has earned accreditation from the ArbNet program and has, for the last 9 years, been recognized by Tree Campus USA, an Arbor Day Foundation program. The Landscape and Arboretum Program promotes tree conservation and preservation on Bard’s nearly 1000-acre Campus and offers horticultural education, outreach, and research. To celebrate its 11th anniversary, the Landscape and Arboretum Program is hosting a tree planting event on campus on Arbor Day, Friday, April 27. The event, which takes place at 2 p.m. along the path to the Bertelsmann Campus Center from Annandale Rd., is free and open to the public. ArbNet, an interactive, collaborative, international community of arboreta and tree-focused professionals, facilitates the sharing of knowledge, experience, and other resources to help arboreta meet their institutional goals and works to raise professional standards through the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program. The Landscape and Arboretum Program at Bard College preserves and enhances the natural and landscaped resources of the College’s nearly 1000-acre campus in the Hudson River Valley and promotes knowledge and appreciation of horticulture and conservation. The Bard campus is comprised of meadows, forests, wetlands, tidal estuary, and a Hudson River tributary, namely the Sawkill Creek. The campus landscape also contains many 200-year-old trees and is part of the 32-mile Hudson River National Historic Landmark District. The Landscape and Arboretum Program aims to provide a campus environment rich in horticultural diversity and beauty that can be readily enjoyed by the College and surrounding community.
