A marvel of engineering derived from a beloved nineteenth-century Belgian tradition, the Spiegeltent is a glittering mirrored pavilion with an interior of carved wood surfaces, parquet floor, beveled mirrors, stained-glass windows, and sumptuous velvet canopies. Since 2006, it has enchanted guests with boundary-breaking and entertaining performances in the Fisher Center’s awe-inspiring setting.
On Fridays and Saturdays, for patrons 21 and up, the Spiegeltent festivities continue long after performances end with Spiegeltent After Hours, hosted and co-curated by Andy Monk of Queer Conspiracy; the space remains open until 12:30 am, with dancing, DJs, and food and drink at the Spiegeltent Garden Bar.
Spiegeltent programming is part of SummerScape 2025, which runs June 27 – August 17, with seven weeks of music, opera, dance, and theater. SummerScape, a “hotbed of intellectual and aesthetic adventure” (The New York Times), serves as an incubator for adventurous works that often go on to have extended lives and make significant impacts on the performance landscape in New York and around the country and world. This year, in addition to Spiegeltent offerings, it includes the world premiere of Pastoral, a collaboration between Fisher Center LAB Choreographer in Residence Pam Tanowitz, visual artist Sarah Crowner, and composer Caroline Shaw (June 27–29); a work-in-progress reading of Suzan-Lori Parks’s libretto for Jubilee, an adaptation of Scott Joplin’s Treemonisha, the first Fisher Center LAB Civis Hope Commission (July 11–13); the first full U.S. staging of Bedřich Smetana’s opera Dalibor, directed by Jean-Romain Vesperini, with the American Symphony Orchestra conducted by Leon Botstein (July 25 – August 3); and the 35th Bard Music Festival Martinů and His World (August 8–17).

After years of collaborating in various bands and informal settings, they have teamed up as a formidable duo featuring high lonesome vocal harmony and fiery flatpicking. They effortlessly straddle the line between hard-core traditional bluegrass and experimental forms.

Thursday, July 31 at 7 pm“Like James Taylor’s voice or B.B. King’s guitar, Alison Brown’s banjo is an instrument possessed of a unique sonic signature and an inescapable beauty…an artist who never ceases to delight.” —Billboard Magazine
Grammy Award-winning musician Alison Brown has built a reputation as one of today’s most forward-thinking and innovative banjo players. With musical beginnings in the Southern California bluegrass scene, Alison takes the banjo far beyond its Appalachian roots by blending bluegrass and jazz influences into a sonic tapestry that has earned praise and recognition from a variety of national tastemakers, including The Wall Street Journal, CBS Sunday Morning, NPR, and USA Today.
Brittany & Natalie Haas
Thursday, August 7 at 7 pmSisters Natalie (cello) and Brittany (fiddle) Haas began their musical lives together, filling their childhood home with Bach suites and old-time tunes alike. It was on their own, however, following divergent paths through disparate musical traditions, countries, and cultures that they both arrived as virtuosi and composers at the highest levels of contemporary string music. With HAAS, these singular musicians finally record together—in duo form—for the first time. From Nashville to Norway, the Celtic Isles to California, Natalie and Brittany Haas have absorbed, adapted, and made their own world of music.
Chris Eldridge & Kristin Andreassen
Thursday, August 14 at 7 pmKristin and Chris (a.k.a. Critter) met back when their bands Uncle Earl and Punch Brothers were just getting started. Over the years, they've shared the stage and studio with some of the most luminous artists of our time (Paul Simon, John Paul Jones, Emmylou Harris), and they've won awards (John Lennon Song Contest Grand Prize, a Grammy, Americana Music Association Instrumentalist of the Year). New parenthood has gifted this couple with more time at home, and more time to play music together. As a duo, they favor Kristin's originals, peppered with the bluegrass and old-time standards that Critter grew up on. All reimagined for two guitars, close harmonies, the occasional riff on a dance board or harmonica, and an ever more finely-tuned sense of “the things that matter.”
